The Faculty of Agriculture and Animal Sciences (FAAS) is based at Busitema University's Arapai Campus, approximately 11 kilometres along the Soroti–Moroto road. Its practical agricultural training tradition began in 1958 as a Farm Institute, developed into Arapai Agricultural College in 1964, and became part of Busitema University in 2010.
FAAS offers nine certificate, diploma, bachelor's, master's and doctoral programmes through three academic departments. All programmes reported for 2023/24 had current accreditation from the National Council for Higher Education. The Faculty serves approximately 2,000 students and manages about 675 hectares used for crop, cattle, goat, pig, poultry, aquaculture and apiculture training and enterprise activities.
Our practical approach
Teaching combines classroom learning with laboratory work, farm practice, field attachment and community engagement. During 2023/24 the Faculty deployed 850 students for industrial training, developed 33 practical manuals and expanded digital learning with staff training, accessible learning equipment and an ODeL studio.
